Research Studies

UF Institute on Aging faculty members are passionate about research and would like to offer as much information as possible about the exciting possibility of volunteering for research.  Research participants partner with us in gaining new knowledge for our ultimate goal: improving the health, independence, and quality of life of older adults.

The primary emphasis of our research is in the areas of sarcopenia (loss of muscle mass and strength) in older adults and the effect of exercise, nutrition and pharmacological intervention on this condition. Funding for our studies comes from a variety of sponsors including the National Institutes of Health (NIH), National Institute on Aging (NIA), the American College of Sports Medicine, and industry.

Most of our clinical studies are conducted at the Aging and Geriatric Clinical Research facility and the Health Promotion Center (HPC); others are conducted in collaboration with various UF colleges, such as the College of Health & Human Performance or the College of Dentistry, the College of Nursing, and the College of Health Professions and Public Health.

Remember, requesting information on a study in no way obligates you to participate in a study nor does it affect your standing as a patient, employee or student of the University of Florida.

Thank you for considering playing a vital role in the progress of research on aging and expanding knowledge in this important medical field by becoming a research participant.
